Skin Savior: DIY Mint Cucumber and Green Grapes Facial Scrub

My skin just seems to automatically know when September is here and summer is ending. I start to see large flaky patches on my chin, nose, and between my eyebrows. Let me tell you, it is not attractive at all.

Luckily for me, I've discovered this miracle skin scrub to keep my face as smooth as a baby's bottom.

What I love most about this scrub is that the ingredients can already be found in your kitchen and it's not full of any harsh chemicals so it's create for sensitive skin.

To make 12 ounces, you will need....
     3 inches of a cucumber
10 green grapes, skin peeled off
1 1/2 cups of castor sugar or any type of granular sugar
     2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
     1 handful of mint
     Some type of storage container

To make the scrub, it's pretty easy. In a blender or food processor, blitz the grapes, mint, cucumber, and coconut oil into a smooth puree. Then add in the sugar. Mix to combine everything. And that's it! Put it in a container and store in your fridge for up to 3 weeks.

I know it's not the prettiest thing around but I promise it works wonder. The sugar is a great exfoliant. It's coarse enough to remove the dead skin but not too harsh that you can't use on your face.

For dry skin, it's important to find something that will lock in moisture and act as a protective barrier. Coconut oil is the skin miracle worker. It contains capric, caprylic, and lauric acids which are three fatty acids that have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties. Plus is full of Vitamin E (great for growth and repair of skin) and anti-aging properties.

Cucumbers are great for fading dark circles, improving complexion, soothing sunburn, and tightening pores. It's also extremely refreshing.

Mint is a natural anti-inflammatory, helps remove blackheads, and also contains a bit of salicylic acid to help with fight acne.

Now at first I thought using grapes would make things a bit sticky, before I realized that the sugar probably would do that anyways. Then I remembered that Caudalie, a French skincare brand, is known for their products that contains grape extracts. So I did a little research for myself.

Grapes are chock full of phytochemicals, phytonutrients, and Vitamin C, basically meaning loads of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties. Green grapes help even out skin tone, lighten scars, rejuvenate skin, and soften skin. Who wouldn't want a scrub filled with those possibilities?!?

Now to use the scrub, make sure your face is dry and your finger tips are wet. Take a small scoop of the scrub and massage into skin in circles. The Beauty Department has a great graphic explaining  how to properly exfoliate.

While I mainly use this scrub on my face, it's also great for your body. I love to use if before I shave my legs for soft, smooth stems.

Or if you have a friend who loves trying new skincare items, this would make a great gift. Pour it into a cute jar, add some ribbon, and a fun label.

Hopefully this is as much of a skin miracle for you as it is for me! I can't live without it now.

  1. I am too! My skin has become hyper sensitive to skincare products in the past year so I'm always looking for a natural alternative. I haven't seen a single dry patch since I started using this scrub
